Question: Recently, when did I experience an act of kindness and how did it make me feel?
Quote: "Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love." - Lao Tzu
In a fast paced world, acts of kindness serve as simple yet powerful tools to uplight others and make a positive impact. When genuinely done, these acts have the potential to transform someone’s day, month, year or even the rest of their life. The beauty of kindness lies in the fact that both the giver and receiver experience a surge of oxytocin, a bonding chemical responsible for warm feelings and connections. responsible for all the warm feelings and connections that we have with other people. Huge amounts of oxytocin surge through a mother’s body when she gives birth, and that’s what forms the strong bond between a mother and a child. There’s many ways to get oxytocin, and one of the easiest ways is genuine acts of kindness.
Reflect on a moment when you witnessed such kindness, how did it make you feel? Witnessing generosity releases oxytocin, generating happiness and inspiring us to be more generous ourselves. The beauty of oxytocin lies in its ability to foster a cycle of kindness; the more we experience it, the more inclined we become to spread kindness to others. Therefore, sometimes we think that we are too small or incapable of making the world a better place. However, through a simple, and genuine act of kindness we can actually make it a better place.
